No school today! It is kinda bitter sweet. It was the last day before Christmas break and it was going to be a fun day but, it is always nice to have a longer break :) It is also best to keep our little ones safe. It was a little crazy here for about 20min this morning. I woke up at 5:50 to her pump beeping... yup, its Friday and I forgot to set my alarm because I normally don't work on Fridays. I got up and got running to get things done. I came downstairs and started coffee, a bagel and getting Jillian's meds all made up. As I was walking upstairs my phone started to ring. It was my boss calling to tell me that they just got a call letting them know school was cancelled and when schools close we close. I gave Jillian her one med that has to be given at 6 and then laid back down. About 40min later I got a text asking if I could contact our wrap around staff... ahh, thats the site that I oversee and I totally forgot about them! I tried calling one and had a wrong number, so I got a hold of another. They figured out at 6 (when we open) that there was no school. (as a center we did not find out there was no school until just before 6). I was so grateful they had taken care of it. Note to self, snow days=call wrap around!
This week has been kinda chill (in the weather and around here)
Monday I was off of work because Jillian had her one year check up with her ped. I read a blog from another mom with a kiddo like Jillian this week and it talked about how ped appointments for kids like Jilli are just updating the doctor of everything that has happened with specialists and then going. I like Jillian's ped and she is always very kind and has a listening ear but it is basically me updating her about whats going on at Children's. The visit turned long once we went to the lab. I had not realized that Jillian would be needing blood work. Getting blood out of Jillian is HARD. First we went to the lab at the clinic we were at. They tried once and got nothing. They then decided to blind try her arm and that did not work. They then said that they would have to send us over to Lakeland hospital because they would have someone who could get it. I loaded Jillian up in the car. By that time it has started snowing... hard. As I was getting off of I43 onto 12 I started to slide and ended up having to back myself up when both of my front wheels hit the curb. Luckily there were no cars behind me because they would have hit me.
We got to the hospital and found our way to the lab (that hospital is weird!). We came in at 5:30 and they close at 6. Most of the lights were off in the lab and we had to ring a bell to get someone from the back to come and check us in. While we were standing there I was overhearing what was going on in the blood draw room.... a lovely person who was all drugged up and had just caused a crash because of his drug use was in the lab getting his blood drawn to see how much of these drugs that he kept saying he took daily and could not live without but they had not affect in the accident. He wanted to know his letter grade of how bad he failed the field sobriety test. Dude, your best choice would have been to stop talking. We had to wait until they were done with him, arresting him and reading him his rights before we could go in. Then this young kid called us back to the room (ok, I get I'm not that old). I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. He looked her over and could not find a vain. He then called another lady in. They together tried once and she bled around the needle but nothing in the needle! They then decided that they needed to just do a finger prick. It was a slow process that involved a lot of screaming but we got all the blood they needed.
On Wednesday we got a call back from the dr office that said everything came back ok. I looked at the results online. Her red blood cell count is slightly elevated again. It is elevated most of the time it is drawn. Her size of red blood cell counts has always been high too. No one has ever brought it up but it makes me wonder if there is something to that.
Most of the week has been spent at work or wrapping gifts.
One big thing of the week is her sleeping! Jillian has NEVER been my sleeper. people talk about how much babies sleep at night and nap. Not my baby! Until this week. I am just hoping this is not a fluke. I think that is a combination of things. Jillian has gone to bed by 9pm every night this week. She has not screamed and fussed for a half hour before falling asleep. I am not having to lay next to her. Last night she slept from 9pm to 10:50am!!! So what changed? Three things 1. We started her on the continual antibiotic. She is pooping better with less laxative (2ml vs. 2.2ml-3ml). I know that does not sound like a huge difference but it is. We will see what kinda of long term help it makes since she has only been on it a week. 2. We are draining her at night. Her g port is hooked up to a drainage bag and we are getting about an ounce out every night. She is not puking in the morning! She gets mad when we disconnect the bag in the morning. The one year old knows it helps! 3. She got a new bed! Brent and I want to know where this thing has been for the last year of our lives. It is the DayDreamer by Dex. It is sold at Toys R Us. It is like the nap nanny which was recalled about a year ago. It is like foamish stuff that sits on the floor and is at a 28 degree incline. It is amazing. She loves it! We were trying to figure out what we were going to do for her sleeping because about a week ago she got out of her rock and play (she was buckled in) and was getting the covers off of our bed while we were sleeping. She was trying to climb in with us. Not how you want to wake up in the middle of the night. Mom and I went to Toys R Us on Sunday and found this and decided to give it a try. Something like it had been recalled because people placed it on counters and kids wiggled and flipped to the floor. For us it is great that it is on that floor because if she did manage to get out she would be about an 2in off the floor. The straps seam to sit better for her too. The cover on it is waterproof and is amazing! My only issue with it is that we cant get the drainage bag to hang as low because she is so close to the floor. The bag works on gravity. We will figure something out to help that!
Overall it has been a good busy week. We are getting prepared for all the Christmas festivities and her big lung test on Monday. We got a call Wednesday night with all of the instructions for getting her ready for the OR.
