Having Jilli

Here is a message I wrote to some friends back in June 22, 2012. It explains a little bit of our journey into having Jillian. We first went off all birth control in October of 2010 and did not get pregnant with Jillian until March of 2012. As I sat in church this Sunday listening to the story of Hannah I was reminded of my prayers that were very direct with God, informing Him that I deeply desired a baby and that it was going to take Him to make it happen. He granted my wish and looking back I can see some of the reasons for His timing, however that was a painful time in my life. Here is a little bit of the story:

Friends,
I have felt for a while like I needed to share this story... with someone... everyone, however I have been a little nervous. However I woke up today and realized that God has given me an amazing gift and the least I could do was tell the world the story so they might glorify Him in this as Brent and I are.
As some of you know Brent and I started trying to get pregnant a year ago, as last summer it looked like we were going to get our wish, however that ended very painfully on my birthday last year. I then proceed to spend the next several months hurt with God. Come January Brent and I were faced with a decision from the doctors, after being off birth control for 16 months and still not getting pregnant, they wanted to know if we wanted to start looking at medical interventions. We started praying for an answer and we came back frustrated because we felt like we were walking in the wilderness and God had left us to figure it out for ourselves. We decided to hear what the doctors had to say and that hopefully then God would say something.
The Sunday before we were to go to the first doctor on Thursday, we went to church in Whitewater and herd a sermon on prayer and asking others to join with you in prayer. Every Wednesday we have dinner with some great friends of ours and we spend time talking about God and praying (and being a little silly too!). Before they left that Wednesday they asked if they could pray with us before the appointment the next day. I knew that prayer and praying with others was exactly what we needed however, my heart was a little hard and I did not have high hopes for prayer at this point. While an amazing woman prayed for me I got a sharp cramp. I thought to myself "could God be doing something" but then dismissed it to gas or something along that line.
We went to the doctor the next day and set up an action plan of what doctors I needed to see in what order and what test we were going to do. After leaving I made an appointment with another doctor, for two weeks later, to start the tests. It was the first time I was starting to feel life back in the situation.
Over the next two weeks my body started acting funny. I kept attributing it to being busy at work, or drinking too much caffeine or other silly things. On the Friday night before the doctor appointment I realized I was late for my period. We were sitting at our apartment with friends that night and I had to go to the bathroom really bad. I knew that they say it is best to take a pregnancy test in the morning, because Brent and I had planned each test we had taken over the previous 9 months, however tonight I felt like taking one. I did not have a very positive outlook and figured it would be negative like so many before. I went to the bathroom and took the test and figured I would go back later to see the words "not pregnant" stair at me. However I could not even get out of the bathroom before the word "pregnant" showed up. I started to scream, and yelled for Brent to get in the bathroom fast (nothing like freaking your husband and friends out) and showed him the test.
I then went to the doctor on the following Wednesday and they confirmed and I am now 14 weeks along.
The night before the first doctors appointment was the night that the egg implanted... hence the cramps. However I do not believe in coincidences enough to think that randomly, while someone was praying for me to get pregnant that the baby would implant then. I serve a God who is in control of the universe and HE implanted our baby. So that time when we thought He was not listening... he was preparing us for an amazing gift. The doctors were starting to doubt that I would ever get pregnant... but I think that is what we needed.
You could look at this story and see that a lot of pieces randomly fell into places nicely but I will not stand by that thinking because this story has GOD written all over it. When men thought it was not possible... God proved his power. When we thought God had left us to figure it out on our own... He was putting all the pieces into place. When I had given up on prayer... God brought some amazing people into my left to remind me of its power. When I decided I would do it all on my own... God showed me He was the one really in control the whole time, and made it all work a lot better then I could have ever. Because even-though this amazing baby is growing in my body... I can not knit it together. I cant not protect it from everything... or even cure morning sickness, but there is an AMAZING God who can, and does.
So I urge you friends, to take some principles from this:
1. Find people in your life to gather and pray with. If you look at the early Church in Acts it talks about how people got together and ate and prayed. The first group of Christians knew how important this was and it is still just as important today.
2. When there is a time in your life when you feel God has left you to wonder, continue to seek Him.
3. Give thanks for the little things in life... including a little pain during a prayer.
4. Tell others the amazing things He is doing in your life. We can all encourage others around us by talking about what God is doing. Don't keep it to yourself, because it is not just your story... He is the author. What would we do if all of the amazing people in the Bible kept their story to themselves?
5. Pray... because we serve an awesome God who listens.
I hope you all have an amazing day!
