It all started in an elevator when Jilli was a baby. In the summer there are signs in the elevators at CHW advertising the run/walk and I had seen it several times as Jilli was admitted in the hospital. My mom looked at me on one elevator ride and ask if we were going to participate or not (we had talked about it a few times) so I took the plunge and signed up a team. My goal was 10 team members.
Since then we have participated each year.
It is our way to give back to the hospital and its one of our highlights of the year. Jilli talks about it all year (she calls it the "team Jilli walk" lol)
We are so thankful for all the people who have participated with us in the past by either donating or walking or running.
This year my goal is to take it up a level. My goal this year is 30 team members and to raise over $3,000!
I had a chance a few months ago to attend a meeting about the walk this year and give feed back on how to improve it. This pumped me up about the event this year!
One of the things we talked about was what the money raised goes for. One of the big things that this money is used for that means a lot to my girls is the expressive therapies! The art, music and movement therapists are some of the most amazing people in the world and pour into my girls. They make long hospital days feel shorter... they help decorate medical equipment... they make my girls laugh! I am so thankful for each of them!
Insurance doesn't pay for expressive therapies even though it greatly improves health outcomes, so these therapies need to be paid for in other ways and the run/walk helps to pay for them. These therapies are so important to so many kids and we want to give back and say thank you by helping to raise money to help keep these programs going. I know $3,000 is a SMALL part of their yearly budget but its a starting point for a goal!
