Disney World with a Latex Allergy

I have an airborne anaphylactic latex allergy and often going places causes me anxiety. People for some reason really like balloons and balloons have sent me to the hospital many times.

So before we left on our trip to Disney World our travel agent contacted Disney to see if they had any suggestions to help to keep me safe while we were there.

First they said that the balloons they sell have a plastic bubble around them to limit exposure of latex  into the air. They said they also spray stuff on them to limit latex going in the air if the plastic is popped. Mainly we saw the balloons on strollers and those are not allowed in buildings so that keeps me safer because latex in the air outside is not a problem but inside it can be.

The biggest place that latex was an impact was at restaurants. Disney World staff uses latex gloves in the dish room to take dishes out of the dish water. They do not use latex gloves in any food prep areas or any other part of Disney World. Because of this all dishes that I used had to be specially washed for me. This included at buffets and quick service places. Everyone was always very nice about it but sometimes it was a pain. It also meant that even if someone else in my group was eating something really yummy I could not try it. Disney is great about allergies and the chefs are trained well to come to the table and work with anyone who has an allergy and most servers were very understanding. I only had one meal that was not up to the quality of everyone else (my dad and I ordered the same thing, his was good, mine they took allergy to mean flavorless food...)but otherwise my food was great. The cups and silverware are not touched by the gloves in most cases because those are washed in racks that are taken out all together however most places were still fine with washing those for me just in case. I was also fine with being given paper plates and plastic utensils instead, honestly I preferred this option. Overall from a food area I found that all of the chefs had a plan for latex allergies and knew what to do to help.

We did not ride test track this time. I have heard from other people with latex allergies that they have had in issue in there however I never have in the past.

Overall I feel like Disney is accommodating to latex allergies. Did I wish we had a world without latex gloved and balloons, of course, but since we don't and Disney has them both in their parks I felt like they still try to accomidate.

This just looks like a pile of death to me. I am not sure why this pile of balloons was there but this is a zoomed in pic as I stayed very far away

Disney disposable plates even look fun!

This meal was so yummy. It was in Norway. I didn't eat off of the buffet here however I did have the meal and the special washed my dish for me
