Live it out

Ever write a thoughtful blog post about making the best out of life and having to dance through the rain that life pours down on you and then the next day have to live it out big time...

Yup!

This morning Brent was changing Jillian's diaper as I was in the kitchen making my cup of coffee. Jillian was coughing. This is not an odd sound. The coughing kept going and going. Then she coughed and did not breath for what seamed like forever but really lasted less then 30sec. She made a scary sound with that cough which caused Brent to pick her up and start "burping" her and yelling her name. I came running. Then she took a gasp of air and continued to cough. Well good morning Upton house! She stopped coughing and had a scared look on her face. She had a tear in her eye and gave me a hug hanging on tight. She did not want to let go, and neither did I. We gave her a neb and her lungs sounded better.
I would have brought her to an ER then if I thought they would have done anything. At that point she was breathing and other then coughing was not showing signs of our scary moment.
Brent left for work and Jilli and I headed to school. Hwy 12 was a mess and a road that people typically go around 70mph during the morning commute was traveling at 35mph. I was a long drive to work.
Jilli did ok at school. Shortly after we arrived she was sitting on my lap and her med port opened. It spilled just enough Elecare so I smelled like Elecare and looked like I peed my pants.  She was coughing and such while she was there so she had a neb at school. I called the doctor's office and got her a 2pm appointment. After the morning I just wanted someone to listen to her. We left school around 12:15. As I walked out I said that I felt like I was forgetting something but did not know what it was.
I got home around 12:45 and realized what I forgot... my phone. I loaded Jillian back up in the car (she fell asleep on the way home) and headed up the driveway. It had snowed all morning and to get out of our driveway you have to go up a pretty good incline.
I made it almost to the top the first try and then a car came so I had to stop. When I tried to go again I was stuck so I went back down to try again. I backed down but not enough to get up to momentum to make it up. I back down again and then slid into a pile of snow on the side of our driveway. This time I was STUCK! It took me 20 min to get my car out between shoveling around the car and going forward and backwards. Mind you, I had no phone and had to get to Jillian's appointment in Waterford. By the time I got the van out of the snow I did not have time to drive to Elkhorn before I drove to Waterford, so we just headed for her appointment.
She slept until we got in the parking lot. Then she woke up mad. We got into the clinic and checked in. She curled up on my shoulder with a blanket. Not normal Jillian. They called us back. She stood on the scale for them. They took us to a room and did vitals. She did well for vitals.
Then  the nurse practitioner came in. I explained the story of the past few days. She said she thinks what happened this morning was that a chunk of flem got stuck in her through and Brent did the right thing by picking her up and patting her back because that broke it free. She said she thinks her symptoms right now are from thick mucus. She said she has been seeing a lot of kids with a yucky nose and vomiting up flem. She said to watch for an ear infection because that is developing with most kids and for a temp over 100.5 because thankfully with this she has yet to have a temp. Otherwise there is not much we can do other then give her nebs for her lungs to help them deal with her breathing with this.
We then drove to Elkhorn and got my phone.

So yup, I'm tired this afternoon. I am going to go make a big batch of soup and corn bread. Comfort food...

And yes...

I am still choosing to dance in the rain! Life is too short to let the rain rise around you. Yup there have been times today I wanted to throw a pitty party but what does that help? Plus dancing in rain is a lot more fun!
