Make them believe they are a Christian nation…
If they believe they are a Christian nation its easy to get them to do thing that were never talked about in the Bible…
Because when a nation becomes Christian is easy to convince them that
their culture is Christian. That their every day holidays and festivals
are Christian. Getting drunk at church festivals becomes normal.
Gambling in places of worship is normalized.
When a nation becomes
Christian they believe that all of their actions are Christian. They
believe that because they are a part of the group and they check the box
Christian then they are fine. Then churches become like social clubs.
Every action can be justified by a pulled out Bible verse, don’t mind
context, and those ones you don’t like, just ignore them if they don’t
suite your purpose. Only read the text at face value, never dive deep,
and always see yourself as the hero in every story. When the nation
becomes Christian they never see that their nation has become more like
Rome then the Christian’s in the stories, they never see the things they
do wrong.
When a nation becomes Christian they justify that all
they do is holy. They say it is God ordained even when what they are
doing looks nothing like the character of God. When a nation becomes
Christian it is easy to justify killing and harming in the name God in
order to keep the people “safe” because for God’s chosen people, safety
is the highest goal.
When a nation becomes Christian its easy to pin
one political side as the chosen one and then not hold them
accountable. If you believe there is only one chosen political side then
anything your side does is good. There is no need for accountability.
When a nation becomes Christian things that are in the Bible that don’t
line up with the “Christian” culture then the Bible in thrown out not
the culture. The Bible is used just to prove the culture. If taking care
of the poor, widowed, sick, hurting is not a part of the culture then
those people are villainized despite what the Bible says.
When a
nation becomes Christian they will see their way of economics as the
only Godly way no matter who it hurts. They will idolize how they do
money and say it is the only God given way. If you don’t win in this
economy, then it is viewed that God’s favor is not on you. Things like
being frugal is viewed as Godly in some churches… no matter how many
people are enslaved to make your cheep things. In other sect’s
lavishness valued so big jets take priority over feeding the hungry. How
the collective uses their money is seen as the only good way.
When
a nation becomes Christian it is easy to start to idolize the things of
that nation. What often starts as thankfulness can quickly turn to
worship and when some question the worship it is seen as them not being
thankful. Statues, monuments, flags and ideals become the golden calf
but if you point out the golden calf then you are told you must hate the
nation and in turn God. That if you don’t join in the worship of the
nation then you must not really worship the same God. It can be easy for
worship to be turned from God to just the nation. Suddenly church
services become nation worship services.
When a nation sees itself
as a Christian nation instead of people who follow God that live near
each other things can fall apart. Its often slow, in subtle ways, but
eventually you can look around and see that while the nation calls
itself Christian, there is little Christian about the nation. And trying
the change the culture is not going to do much because the culture
already believes it is Christian. People will be turned away from God
because they think God is like the culture and they want no part of
that. The church will feel then like it is failing because it has less
check box Christians but those people never followed God to begin with,
they followed the culture. When the shift starts to happen the Christian
leaders will feel like they are loosing power, maybe they will do
whatever they can to try to keep power because they can’t let go of the
cultural nation Christian view. But when a nation stops describing
itself with the fake vail of Christianity, maybe then real Christianity
can finally thrive? Maybe people will finally be able to see Jesus and
not just a nation.
